Your 4 Step Product Audit Plan

When I first started out in business a very, very long time ago, like many of us, I simply was grateful for every sale I got of anything I was flogging.

And, as time moved on, some of the stuff I was flogging wasn’t selling anymore.  I simply couldn’t shift it.  And I couldn’t work out why.

I was putting all the effort in, marketing my socks off, but the stuff just wasn’t selling.  It was just sitting there.  Not doing anything.

What I had forgotten to do as my business was growing, as times were moving on, as I was moving my business into second, third & fourth gear, looking to flip the overdrive switch (google that) and getting ready to start cruising in the outside lane was to take my products & services with me on the journey (by the way, if you really think running a business is actually that simple, then you really do need to talk to me).

The reality is less simple.  The reality is that your business moves on, your business grows in fits & starts, sometimes taking one step forward for every two backwards/to the side/in a circle, missing a gear change and occasionally stalling all together.  All of this is OK.  All of this is fixable if you want it to be.

But your stagnant products aren’t.  They won’t fix themselves -  that’s down to you, and the thing is – you might not want to.

Shocker I know.

So what is a ‘stagnant product’ for your business?  There is no simple off the cuff answer to this really as everyone’s business is different, but to try and simplify it as much as I can, they are the ones that make you miserable every time you think about them.

  • The products or services you are selling because you feel you have to.
  • The products or services you are constantly discounting to try & shift them.
  • The products or services you don’t engage with anymore.
  • The products or services you don’t want to offer anymore.

They are, in fact, sucking the joy out of your business because you don’t love them anymore.

And you need to get rid of them.

And I have this plan to help you do just that.  This is my 4 step plan that I came up with to help get me out of the stagnant product situation, and I’ve been using it ever since – because it works.
